What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It

Gravel Road Living, similar to most web sites, automatically collects non-personal identification information that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visit.  The reason for this is to help understand how readers use my site, and to help make it better.  Gravel Road Living also collects information such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for users who visit and/or leave Comments on my posts.

Additional personal-identifying information collected is only what you choose to provide. 

Comments

A name and email are collected should you wish to leave a Comment on a post.  As well, the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string are collected to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact Forms

As well, if a reader wishes to engage with my blog by completing the Contact Form, first name, last name and email addresses are collected. 

Email List

Again, at your choosing, readers who subscribe to my email list will provide first names and email addresses.  In each case, Gravel Road Living collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with my blog.  

Gravel Road Living will not rent or sell your personal information to any person or organization. 

If you are a subscriber of Gravel Road Living and have supplied your first name and email address, my goal is to communicate helpful and timely information by occasionally sending an email to you to share new posts, helpful resources and key updates.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
